Used Car of the Day: 2017 Chevrolet SS

I love the idea of the Chevrolet SS -- a big, rear-drive sedan with V8 power and a manual -- though the one time I drove one, I was a bit letdown.

Still, I sometimes browse for one on the used-car market. This one caught my eye.

This black-on-black model is apparently in good condition and has been stored in a warehouse. It's not stock, though -- it has Eibach lowering springs, a cold-air intake, and the buyer swapped the Chevy badges for Holdens. He or she still has the Chevy badges if you want them.

The seller also has all service records and says the car still has the original tires, wheels, and Brembo brakes.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Considered one of these when I bought a Mustang GT in 2016, but the SS was at least $10K more out the door. This guy is asking for more than what the car was worth when it was new.

I wonder how many impossible-to-get parts it's going to need from Australia at this point. That was always enought to keep me away from the GTO and G8.

If you want a Chevy SS contact Murray Chevrolet in Selinsgrove PA.

  • Carson D A friend of mine is currently driving a Grand Wagoneer L Obsidian III, which boldly calls out its US production status twice by the time you're behind the wheel. I wonder what happens when products like that one share a showroom with ones that don't have any mention of production location.
  • Add Lightness The level 1 charger that came with my Toyota becomes a level 2 charger when fed 240v. 5 years now and works perfectly.
  • MaintenanceCosts All you people asking for an ICE version realize you'd need a longer hood and different rear packaging (for a fuel tank) to make it work, right?
  • Jalop1991 ah, the old "engaging!" trope. Isn't it funny how "I have to shift my own gears, it's so engaging" disappears the moment EVs come into play.
  • Kcflyer They should sell these to the kamala administration with a 1 billion dollar markup
