Used Car of the Day: 2012 Subaru Outback

Today we bring you a pretty mainstream car -- it's a clean-looking 2012 Subaru Outback that is also a bit high mileage.

This one has 210K miles on the odometer, and the seller claims it has been well-maintained. The interior does have the kind of wear on the driver's seat you'd expect with this mileage. It has the 3.6-liter engine.

The outside has the type of dings and scratches you might expect for a 12-year-old car with 210K miles -- and this one has been driven into the mountains.

The brakes, rotors, and wheel bearings have been replaced within the past year, and the tires apparently have plenty of tread life left.

Not surprisingly, this car is based in the Seattle area and the asking price is $8,000.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

I’ve had RWD and FWD. AWD is superior in our downpours. The 8.3”of clearance doesn’t burt with pooling situations as well.

That seems like an exaggeration. You'll need to replace some suspension components at this age and probably axles as well. You might need to replace some rubber hoses too. But they'll all be cheap and relatively easy.
  • Jeff Keep your vehicle well maintained and it will run a long long time.

  • SCE to AUX I can't warm up to the new look. Still prefer my 22 SF.
  • SCE to AUX I guess the direct sales stores weren't polled. Unless dealers are going out of business, I don't feel one bit sorry for them. They should most fear the mfrs who are eager to get rid of them, reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.
