Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

The G37S 6MT was the best car Infiniti ever made. They lost a lot of automotive credibility when they replaced it with nothing except more crossovers.

My wife had the 2014 version which Infiniti named Q60 for reasons nobody can understand. These are great cars. Its basically a 370Z with tiny back seats and a trunk. Ours was trouble free for many years. Only issues were a slight leak around the driver's side mirror seal and it threw a transmission code related to a speed sensor that required a new valve body for the automatic. Dealer wanted $3k but I swapped in a used unit for $1k in my driveway. The one in the ad is in fantastic shape. We sold ours to Carvana with for $13k but it only had 50k in mileage and totally rust free in FL with one minor fender bender accident from the previous owner. The paint was the biggest let down, the clear coat was fading and peeling but otherwise the car was perfect. Even had the same wheels as example shown here. Most of these have been ruined by the F&F crowd modding them to death so finding a clean example, especially with a manual isn't easy. Given the level of abuse I put on my 350Z (previous generation G35 platform) on track I have no trouble recommended these... the engine is very strong, the handling is sharp, the interior is a bit cheap but otherwise a very solid car.
  • 28-Cars-Later Suggestion for future QOTD: Given the fact US road infrastructure is crumbling around us why must all new cars have 20+ inch wheels with tires an inch or two thick in sidewall which literally become bent over time bc of potholes? I know initially in the 90s wheels got bigger to accommodate larger disc brakes but its gone a little too far given the road infrastructure don't ya think?
  • Jeff Keep your vehicle well maintained and it will run a long long time.

  • SCE to AUX I can't warm up to the new look. Still prefer my 22 SF.
  • SCE to AUX I guess the direct sales stores weren't polled. Unless dealers are going out of business, I don't feel one bit sorry for them. They should most fear the mfrs who are eager to get rid of them, reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.
