Used Car of the Day: 2001 Volkswagen Passat GLX

If you want an older sedan with a stick, give this 2001 Volkswagen Passat GLX a look.

This one has the 2.8-liter V6 and a five-speed manual transmission. It also has heated front seats, Monsoon audio, trunk-mounted CD changer, and Michelin all-season rubber.

It apparently runs well, though the seller says it will be an ideal project car for a VW tech and that serious maintenance that needs to be addressed will be coming soon

If this is something that interests you, give it a look here.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Ιncorrigible Tim... IF I ever wanted " a sedan with a manual" (I had enough of them for 30 years since I started driving), I would get a HONDA, NOT A GOD DAMNED VW. Of course if you are a MASOCHIST like TIM and want the MOST UNRELIABLE Sedan with the DAMNED MANUAL, you'll get the DAMNED VW.

For heaven's sake, Tassos. Would you stop with the constantly negative and idiotic responses. It brings the whole blog down. You may think we get a kick out of your ideologies, but you're really more of a disruptive pain. Please stop... or at least clean-up your responses and keep it professional.

In related ads... "2017 Maserati Ghibli. Beautiful condition, new tires. 122k mi. Branded title (theft recovery). Fantastic buy for the mechanically inclined. $9000 obo." In either case, get your cash out of the bank, stop at the zippy mart for a 12-pack of beer and a pack of matches. Find a clearing with no houses close by. Drink 10 or the 12 beers, then use matches to light the cash on fire. Drink last 2 beers. Pass out, When you wake up you can thank me.

But it will sound so, so good as it burns to the ground.
  • 28-Cars-Later Suggestion for future QOTD: Given the fact US road infrastructure is crumbling around us why must all new cars have 20+ inch wheels with tires an inch or two thick in sidewall which literally become bent over time bc of potholes? I know initially in the 90s wheels got bigger to accommodate larger disc brakes but its gone a little too far given the road infrastructure don't ya think?
  • Jeff Keep your vehicle well maintained and it will run a long long time.

  • SCE to AUX I can't warm up to the new look. Still prefer my 22 SF.
  • SCE to AUX I guess the direct sales stores weren't polled. Unless dealers are going out of business, I don't feel one bit sorry for them. They should most fear the mfrs who are eager to get rid of them, reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.
