Used Car of the Day: 1986 Suzuki Samurai

This is another shorty, at least in terms of the seller's description.

All we know about this 1986 Suzuki Samurai is that it's based in Texas and the seller asks $7,200.

OK, we know a tad more -- it's a manual, the title is in hand, and it's street-legal. The seller also says its runs well and that there are less than 200 miles on new tires and wheels.

I drove a right hand drive Samurai in the Caymans years ago. They are perfect beach vehicles and go anywhere off-roaders. They were everywhere in the late 1980s (to think these were many of my peers first cars. We really didn’t care about safety back then).

However, I couldn’t imagine driving this every day. Sprung stiffer than a Cj-5 , underpowered, and super easy to tip over.

Definitely a vehicle for a specific use purpose.

A high school friend had one of these. He lowered it and called it a "slammurai".

His girlfriend said it looked like a roller skate.

Thanks to its lowered ride height, it was the only Samurai in that high school that didn't end up on its side.

28-Cars-Later Suggestion for future QOTD: Given the fact US road infrastructure is crumbling around us why must all new cars have 20+ inch wheels with tires an inch or two thick in sidewall which literally become bent over time bc of potholes? I know initially in the 90s wheels got bigger to accommodate larger disc brakes but its gone a little too far given the road infrastructure don't ya think?

SCE to AUX I guess the direct sales stores weren't polled. Unless dealers are going out of business, I don't feel one bit sorry for them. They should most fear the mfrs who are eager to get rid of them, reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.
