Today's podcast was all about the longest-lasting cars and trucks you can buy.

Now it's your turn. Which vehicles have lasted the longest for you?

You can go by brand or by model for this one.

I know a lot of you probably get a new car every few years, but some of you, whether by choice or financial situation, probably run your vehicles into the ground.

If you tend to do that latter, which vehicles have really stood the test of time (and miles) for you?

You know what to do. Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

1996 Maxima, bought new. Put 300K, trouble-free miles on it, when my mechanic said it was time....chassis rust was getting the best of it. Sniff, sniff.
  • 66 ford twin-i beam short bed puckup with a 300CI straight six with a Offenhauser intake and a old holly scavenged of a wrecked camero in a junk yard and wrapped headers. sounded like it was farting all the time but it ran strong for 230,000 miles until the valve train gave up. like a young idiot i had no idea what i had and traded it for a turbo EXP/LN7 .. regrets .. lots of them

  • Elrond Still have it.
  • Elrond 2006 Ford Ranger
  • Keith_93 This could have had VW Van magic. It doesn't. Too "another normal car" inside.
  • MaintenanceCosts So far my Toyota Highlander Hybrid is the car I've treated the worst over the course of my ownership. It's had all recommended mechanical maintenance and nothing else, and it's been outside in the weather the entire time. It just hasn't cared, although the yellowing headlights make me feel bad about myself every time I see them. I have no doubt it would last as long as I could possibly keep it, maybe allowing for one HV battery replacement in 5 years or so.
