Used Car of the Day: 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

Today we bring you a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLI that is located somewhere near where I live.

This one is stock with no mods, has had a few parts replaced, and has 120,000 miles on the clock. It's got a six-speed manual transmission. It also has Recaro seats.

The bad is that it has a salvage title thanks to the cat being stolen -- that has been fixed -- plus the dents and dings that accumulate on a 20-year-old car.

The front valance is cracked and it may need rear brake pads/rotors soon.

You can pick this car up in Chicago for $4,750.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Aside from the nostalgia value, this is definitely a money pit unless you have mechanic skills (which I don't).
  • Jeff I am tired of Cybertruck stories. The tread is wearing thin.
  • Chiefmonkey No surprise here! lol
  • SCE to AUX Expect 24 miles EPA; I don't see the point.
  • Npaladin2000 It looks like a good design but I wonder if they're worried about poaching Maverick Hybrid and F150 Powerboost sales. The Ranger hasn't been primarily a North American vehicle in a long time now. It was something that sold overseas in vast amounts that they also sell here (especially if you count the Everest). I'd like to see the option here but I don't know if it'll show up.
  • Nicholas Ford and GM never show proper long term commitment to any new market, and the lack of commitment leads to disastrous wastes of resources and poor market reception.
