Used Car of the Day: 1994 Isuzu Trooper

Today we bring you an off-road-ready, oil-burning 1994 Isuzu Trooper.

This one has a 3.1-liter turbodiesel engine, five-speed manual transmission, and new-ish tires. The seller says the 4WD, A/C, and heat work well.

Apparently, it runs and drives just fine, too, despite blowing some smoke briefly after a cold start.

On the other hand, neither the speedometer nor tachometer work -- they need to be connected.

Seems like a simple fix, at least.

I took a Trooper to southern Africa in 1991, and it proved to be the best $12,000 I could have spent. It had the 2.6L 4ZE1 engine and maintenance was within the repair wheelhouse of many African mechanics.

  I've heard the continent is dominated by Toyotas of all years/models not only because of reliability but because you can find mechanics/get parts for them in most countries.

We only got the Diesel first generation version Isuzu Trooper here in the states until 1986. After that they were equipped with the 2.6-4 and the GM 2.8 V6. These second generation ones were more upmarket, above the Rodeo and had the 3.5 V6 standard. This one looks like it's from the Caribbean or South America.

Nrd515 As clueless as the car companies seem to be at this point in time, even they know people hate even the idea of subscription service. It's a total, "Nope, not even going to consider this car, you can bite me!" thing with me, and apparently a lot of other people.
Calrson Fan I owned a 93 compact Toytota. Bought new after looking at used as the resale value was so stupid high on Toy trucks at the time that new was the only way to go. V6, extended cab & 4WD were the only way to option these small trucks so they had some capability/utility. One optioned like this Mazda is pretty useless.
