Volkswagen’s smallest crossover is getting an overhaul for the 2025 model year. The Taos, which debuted a few years ago, will see refreshed exterior styling, new interior fixtures, and an upgraded turbocharged engine.

The 2025 Taos receives a revised front end with a new bumper, updated grille, an available LED light bar, and standard LED projector headlights. An illuminated VW badge is available for the rear, and the automaker will offer three new paint colors: Bright Moss Green, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray. There are also new wheel choices depending on the trim.

The interior sees a new dash design with upgraded materials and more color choices. VW equips an eight-inch floating infotainment touchscreen and said that the Taos features more sound deadening for a quieter cabin. The base S comes with cloth upholstery, while the SE and SE Black trims get synthetic leather. The SEL comes with genuine hides in either black/grey or dark blue.

Volkswagen massaged the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, bumping output from 158 horsepower to 174. The seven-speed dual-clutch has also been replaced by an eight-speed automatic that VW said would enhance drivability and refinement.

The IQ.Drive safety suite is standard for all variants. It brings forward collision warnings and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more.

We don’t have pricing for the new crossover yet, but VW said it would offer more details closer to the Taos’ launch later in 2024.

VW-Porsche-Audi pick nice colors. Like the vampire used to in the 60s.

A 1.5 turbo. No thanks. Even the ubiquitous 2.0 turbo is rather small. VW had better get it's act together soon or it'll go the way of Studebaker. Dieselgate was a setup but VW should have known better than to push it.

2.0 turbo is rather small? the 2.0 turbo is the most ubiquitous engine on the market. The vast majority of VW, BMW 2, 3, 4, X1, X2, X3, X4, and 5, Mecedes C, GLC, Cadillac CT4, CT5, XT4, XT5, Infiniti.....I could go on and on. The turbo 1.5 with 174 hp in the smaller Taos is just fine
  • Lou_BC I can see the new commercials, "That thing gotta battery?"
  • Loser The first run of a completely new Dodge, what could possibly go wrong.
  • Lou_BC I read that the plan is to move Durango production to Windsor Ontario.
  • Lou_BC I'd prefer the TJ since it has coil springs. ..................................... I'm curious as to why it has a front "selectable" locker in the front and a "lunchbox' in the rear. Why not go selectable for the rear? Probably got tired of spending money and the "lunchbox" is the cheapest option. .............................. "Over-axle steering kit"?? I think he means "springs over axle" kit. Cheap way to gain lift. ...................................... "Rear axle replaced with Ford Explorer axle" That would be the 8.8??? Why not use a Jeep Dana 44? ..................................... "slip yoke eliminator" That gets rid of some driveline headaches. ................. "Front axle disco removed" Swaybars permanently disconnected? That would be interesting on the street.
  • Daniel J Ah......unions blackmailing corporations again. Are unions going to keep these companies afloat when they can no longer sell or make cars affordably here?
