Ram Truck Owners Can Get Up to $2,000 Off a New Ford F-150 Lightning

Ford saw an initial burst of interest in the electric F-150 Lightning pickup, but it’s had to fall back on incentives to maintain that demand in the time since. The automaker’s latest offer is a discount of up to $2,000 to Ram drivers willing to jump to an F-150 Lightning.

The Lightning was the second electric truck to hit the market after the Rivian R1T, but the field has grown more crowded in recent times with the release of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, both direct competitors to the Ford. The Blue Oval has an existing offer for Tesla drivers that provides up to $1,500 off the truck.

CarsDirect found the offer, which became public in an October 8 dealer note. The deal is available across the country, but some regions see a smaller $1,000 discount. It’s also worth noting that these incentives would be on top of state and federal tax credits and other offers.

The F-150 Lightning has some compelling features, but it has never reached the affordable price point Ford promised before its release. Currently, the top Platinum trim easily crests $90,000 after a few options, which is a big ask, even for truck buyers conditioned to high prices.

Ford’s offer comes as Ram is gearing up to release its first electric truck. The Ram 1500 REV promises better towing numbers and a longer range than the F-150, though we’ll have to wait for its official release to test those claims.

Ford's 1st attempt at a 1/2 ton EV pick-up was piss poor & lazy. For a company that recently introduced aluminum bodies and turbo engines into their ICE PU's I expected much better. EV's do not scale well. With current battery tech & charging infrastructure they still work best as a car for use in an urban/suburban environment. Battery PU's are even less affordable than current ICE PUs. Their horrible resale value makes them even more expensive to own. Combine that with their limited ability to travel into rural areas, especially in tow, especially during the winter and you have to ask yourself what's the point. As I've said before they could work better than an ICE PU in a commercial use case, but that's about it currently.

The fake lightning has been a colossal failure from a design and engineering stand point. This, despite it being nothing more than a normal F-150 with the gas engine taken out and a Rubbermaid tub put in it's place. Then, on the sales front its been a colossal failure as well. Ford had/has no clue what they are doing and it shows.

Ford Motor Company is the most technologically advanced company in the most technologically advanced industry on the planet.
  • Lou_BC I was on a 4 lane highway this summer. Speed limit 100 kph. I was going 110 kph passing a small SUV. I look in my mirror and a F150 is so close on me I can't see his grill. I keep at the speed I'm going. I pass the small SUV. I was going to move over to let him by but the moment there was space he swerved into that lane. He pulled up beside me and started moving over. I kept the same speed. I did not budge. He then floors it and tries to cut me off. ....... ......... ......... What was odd about this was the year before in the same place, a fellow in a Chevy pulling a side by side on a trailer did slmost the same thing. He swerved to pass but almost lost control because his trailer started to wobble.
