GM to Lean On Virtual Design and Testing to Cut Costs

Developing and manufacturing new vehicles is not for the faint of heart. The costs and time involved are so extreme that only the most well-funded and compelling newcomers survive, but GM is taking steps to trim its costs. The company recently said it would move to a completely virtual design and validation system as soon as next year.

  • SCE to AUX To what extent can this replace a traditional minivan? I've seen very disappointing range figures, and that's before you load up the family and stuff for a long weekend. Seems more like a fashion accessory than a utility vehicle.
  • SCE to AUX Beautiful car. Rare does not equal valuable, even in great condition. Also, I never understand how a fun car like this accumulates only 2500 miles a year. That's like a couple hours per weekend over the life of the car.
  • Varezhka On the positive note, more work at Saltillo might mean less immigration from Mexico to US that the MAGA folks are raving about. Just move more work down south until Mexicans start complaining about illegal US immigrants taking their jobs away.
  • Fred An attempt by VW to upmarket from the Scirocco. But all it did was upset the Scirocco folks, that and the higher price meant it didn't sell. But if $29k is the going price, it looks like it has come into it's own.
