Used Car of the Day: 2009 Nissan XTerra

I both love and hate concise ads for the used cars I feature in this space.

I love them because they get to the point and make a little less work for me. I hate them because sometimes they leave too much unknown.

Such is the case with the ad for this 2009 Nissan XTerra.

Here's what I can tell you. It has 165,000 miles, apparently runs well, and the exterior is in good condition.

Here's what I can't tell you -- what the listed "damage in the back seat" is. Torn upholstery? Missing seating row? Something else? Your guess is as good as mine.

On the other hand, I can tell you this vehicle is for sale in Atlanta for $4,500.

One of the last home runs hit by Nissan/Datsun? The 510, the 240Z, the 'Hardbody' truck, the Maxima 4DSC, the original Pathfinder, and the GT-R were all 'knock them out of the park' successes. For a number of years Nissan/Datsun may have had more of these types of successful designs/vehicles than any other manufacturer. I would suggest that the XTerra and smaller XTrail and the Sentra SE-R while not home runs were also highly successful designs/autos

I’m personally more of a fan of the first generation XTerra since it’s a bit trimmer and more nimble for everyday driving and off roading. Plus the quality of Nissan vehicles from that era was pretty good. You can fine ones in decent condition with 100-200k that look barely worn for $2-5k. Nonetheless this is a good deal for someone who needs a second vehicle or for a teenager driver. A fair number of these sold, particularly in the sunbelt are 4X2 models, which a lot of people can live with.

  I had an ‘02 Xterra SE/SC 4x4. Even with the blower and a manual, it still was super sluggish with the 2” lift and 31” tires I added. Didn’t care, I loved it! Only downside? Premium fuel only and 12mpg if I drive it like an undertaker downhill.

28-Cars-Later Suggestion for future QOTD: Given the fact US road infrastructure is crumbling around us why must all new cars have 20+ inch wheels with tires an inch or two thick in sidewall which literally become bent over time bc of potholes? I know initially in the 90s wheels got bigger to accommodate larger disc brakes but its gone a little too far given the road infrastructure don't ya think?

SCE to AUX I guess the direct sales stores weren't polled. Unless dealers are going out of business, I don't feel one bit sorry for them. They should most fear the mfrs who are eager to get rid of them, reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.
