Used Car of the Day: 2007 Toyota Sequoia

We haven't featured Toyota's big boy Sequoia in this space much, so let me bring this 2007 Toyota Sequoia to your attention.

There's not a ton to go over here -- it's been well-maintained, has some minor rust issues, and Apple CarPlay and a rearview camera have been installed over time.

It's only had just one owner and it has been professionally detailed.

I don't have a mileage listed, but I can tell you it's for sale in Pennsylvania for $14,950.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

This is one of the best quality ads I've seen here for UCOTD. This car is less than an hour from me. Rusty frames are a thing in the Pittsburgh area, but at least the seller got it fixed - for now. What it means, however, is that you'll be making a trade/scrap decision in another couple years, and then your $15k is shot. Two years ago, my 09 Sedona had exactly the same problem - a perfect exterior with a rusty frame despite being garage-kept and washed underneath after every salt exposure - and I ended up trading it for scrap value. If you want a nice tank, get this Sequoia for $5k but don't plan to run it more than two years.

Oddly enough I have an '89 Toyota "truck" and despite surface rust the frame looks pretty good for the age (though for probably a third or more of it's life it sat barely used). My Volvo 244 did some hard living in NY state before coming here and being parked around Dormont/Brookline for some period prior to 2012, she has rust issues but for a 1992 built car enduring that abuse and four prior owners looks pretty good IMO. One could argue Thor level materials used on the 244 but between the two now I am wondering if prior to the mid 90s there were simply better grades of steel used in some autos vs after (also, both were essentially foreign market imports assembled with foreign components and pre-OBDII emissions) ..... I recall reading something where Lexus execs were looking at steel quality (maybe for a plant expansion) and they were shown whatever the steel spec Chrysler used for the LHS or 300M -which they scoffed at- and the article explained the execs said they would never use such low grade steel on a Lexus ..... this may be yet another example of products *intended* for the US being extremely inferior to their foreign market counterparts, which is something I saw up and close when traveling abroad.
  • Autozilla This 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI is a great find, especially with its original parts and restored interior. The manual transmission and rust-free body make it even more appealing for classic car enthusiasts. If you're looking to keep it running smoothly or need spare parts for your own project, check out Autozilla for a wide range of OEM and aftermarket parts!
  • Nrd515 As clueless as the car companies seem to be at this point in time, even they know people hate even the idea of subscription service. It's a total, "Nope, not even going to consider this car, you can bite me!" thing with me, and apparently a lot of other people.
  • Calrson Fan I owned a 93 compact Toytota. Bought new after looking at used as the resale value was so stupid high on Toy trucks at the time that new was the only way to go. V6, extended cab & 4WD were the only way to option these small trucks so they had some capability/utility. One optioned like this Mazda is pretty useless.
  • Picard234 I'm not sure I'm going to rush in to trade my Soul for this. Interior does look pretty nice.
  • VoGhost Hmmm, Stellantis is failing and Stellantis has essentially no EVs to sell. Coincidence? I think not.
