Driving Dystopia: Ford Patents Automated Speed Violation Detection System for Vehicles

Ford Motor Co. has filed a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a system that would effectively convert modern police vehicles into mobile surveillance platforms designed to autonomously track and tattle on speeders. However, the tech doesn't look as though it would have to be limited to the vehicles driven by law enforcement.

  • Syke So? I hit my dealer when I get the notice. The same dealer who handled the battery recall on my '17 flawlessly, and got a battery replacement on my wife's '20 when we were only supposed to get the software upgrade. And I'll pick up an adapter when the time comes. This isn't a screaming high priority for me.
  • Syke What is the problem with just calling it a Durango? I could understand if the model name has such an unviable reputation (Vega, Pinto, Citation, Cavalier, etc.) as to be unmarketable, but Durango doesn't have such an overtly bad reputation.
  • Lorenzo Yes, Ive seen one close up, and I don't think they have a prayer of lasting as long as the Grumman LLV (long life vehicle) that's been in service for 38 years and counting.
