In Calgary, Alberta they do not use salt, they use sand. That is somewhat common in Alberta. So in Canada an advertised 'Alberta car' is the equivalent of a southern car in the USA in that it is less likely to have severe rust than in other cities or provinces which do use salt.

  Would have to ask a civil engineer. Growing up in Toronto, sand was used instead of salt. When we played road hockey in the late winter/early spring, we often brushed the road otherwise when somebody took a shot you could end up with a face full of sand/grit.

  Drains did not get plugged because nothing melted until the spring and sand was just collecting in layers of snow/sand ran over/pressed by cars. And once permanent spring melting started, road services came, broke and picked ice from the road and loaded into dump trucks, and then removed it to the dump site where good part of sand was recovered once water ran away. We had same thing. We played hockey at night and there was no sand. They would start sanding for the day around 6AM.

Redapple2 I realized the average person is stupid. 1---- i MUST have a vehicle 2 x as big as i really need (a massive pig up truck, or Tahoe pig) 2----- I am entitled to cheap gas. ENTITLED. It is the end of the friggin world as It has been alluded to above. But you see, gas comes from the earth in far away places. Sometimes events interupt the marketplace. I believe this war will last a short time and the markets will revert to lower levels. It s time this unstated - sotovoce war Iran has had with seemingly everybody, is ended. Before they have nukes. This is clear even to a child. (they already have near ICBM with the strike on Diego Garcia) Outside of CAL, gas this week averaged ~~ $3.85. (CA has insane taxes and gas is refined mostly - out the country (Japan, or trans shipped thru carribean ports)). >>>>>>>>The national average (after inflation adj.) for gas was HIGHER THAN THIS FROM 2005 THROUGH 2015. (except fot 2 years that were a tad lower than the bar i set above). Grow up please
