Used Car of the Day: 1992 Acura Legend

Today we bring you a project car with this 1992 Acura Legend.

It's not that much of a project -- it needs paint and it has some rust, but it also seems to run well, though it will need a muffler and A/C recharge.

Other cosmetic issues include worn seats and an ABS light that is stuck on. The seller says the brakes work fine, though.

The mileage is high at over 183K, but the price is low at $1,300.

This could either be a cheap daily for someone who needs inexpensive wheels, or someone can pour some money into fixing the paint, muffler, A/C, ABS light, and driver's seat.

If that someone is you, click here.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

It never "just needs a recharge" when they're that old. All the seals are toast, even if the compressor still works. Ask me how I know. I have a '95 Sable with only 81,000 miles that is otherwise extremely solid, but it would take $2K to restore the air conditioning system.

I've seen them work sometimes...for about 2 days until it all leaks out again.

Shame the state its in, I wonder if this is more of a running parts car than a regular buy.
  • Tassos I PRAISE FORD FOR EMBRACING THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE WHICH SOURCE OF ENERGY ONE CAN USE TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO TRAVEL FREELY.
  • NJRide Wonder how many pre-downsized domestics were traded for these. Probably 100's of thousands of X-Cars for the later 1980's Accords
  • Fred On a positive note now you can join the Orphan's Car Club
  • FreedMike Buyer to dealer when this hits the lot: "Whaddya mean, it's five grand more than a standard truck and only goes 20 miles on a charge?"
  • FreedMike Looks like my brother's old Accord after he was done thrashing it. Dad ended up donating the car, and it was so bad that the person who ended up getting it for free - a Russian Jewish emigre (a big number back in the '80s) - somehow got our number from the agency we donated it to and called us to complain about it.
