The Ford Mustang GTD is Expected to Be Revealed Today

Ford is pressing forward with new, more powerful Mustang variants when other automakers are pulling back on the segment. The company recently held a first drive for the 2024 Mustang, including the new Dark Horse variant, and we’re now seeing leaks for the Mustang GTD, a mid-engine car with wild styling and a surprising underbelly.

Though it looks like a Mustang, the GTD is not expected to use its S650 platform. Sources told Ford Authority that Ford considers it a Supercar, but it’s unclear if the mid-engine designation means a true mid-mounted V8 behind the cockpit or a front-mid design with the powerplant mounted just behind the front axle.

The leaked images seem to back up the former setup, as there are large air intakes in front of the rear wheels. That said, the long hood and odd aero bodywork could indicate the front-mid design. A true mid-engine Mustang would be a surprise, however, as there have been none of the rumors and hints that we saw ahead of the C8 Corvette’s release for this car.

Multimatic is said to be manufacturing the car. The company already built the Ford GT and several of The Blue Oval’s racing machines, so it’s got the know-how to build a significant performer with the Mustang name. Whatever the case, we don’t have long to wait to learn more. The GTD is expected to debut today at Pebble Beach.

I saw in person the other day the new Mustang EV, that's got to be one of the most ridiculous, ugly cars out there....it's a disgrace to the Ford and Mustang name.

The more I look at it, the more I think it looks awesome! It looks like a super beefed up widebody S550 but I may be a little biased because I own a heavily modified S550. I’d really like to see the interior and really hope it is actually a mid engine. I give props to FORD for really stepping up this year and release so many versions of the Mustang!
