Mazda Announces Pricing for the New CX-70 SUV
Mazda recently revealed the CX-70, a new two-row SUV closely related to the three-row CX-90 that debuted for the 2024 model year. Like its larger counterpart, the CX-70 is available with electrified powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid option. The automaker has just released pricing for the new SUV, which starts at just over $40,000.
As it does with several models, Mazda offers a staggering number of trims and configurations for the new CX-70. Seven trims are available, starting with the $40,445 3.3 Turbo Preferred, which gets a turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine making 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.
Mazda’s most powerful mass-production engine makes 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque and comes under the hood of the Turbo S Premium, a $52,450 trim in the middle of the lineup. The PHEV Premium trim gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery pack. The combined output is 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the SUV has a $54,400 starting price.
Though pricey, the CX-70 offers a decent list of standard features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mazda also includes black leather upholstery and a generous helping of advanced driver assistance systems, including blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention monitoring.

What's up with that? All have been suitable for work.
Recently drove a CX-90 rental for a week in Florida. As compared to my wife's 11 year old Buick Enclave is was surprisingly noisy, underpowered, and harsher riding. Although sinking with iPhone was easy initially, I could not get Apple CarPlay to work after the first connection. Good points are handling, gas millage, seat comfort, and a nice interior but not on par with luxury SUV. This is not going to sell well (either CX-70,90) which explains the recent price cut.
Pro tip: if you live in Colorado, Mazda is doing some SERIOUS lease deals on the CX-90 PHEV. We're talking like eight grand in lease money plus a state tax incentive - works out to about four hundred a month for 36 months, 15K miles per year, about 2K down, for a $55,000 vehicle. Yowzers.
Lease is coming due on my GLI in a bit, so I may have to check one out for the heck of it.
The mechanic who hosts Car Care Nut Reviews did a serious eval of those new Mazda six-cylinder engines and found them to be overly complicated. Several services appear to require dropping the engine. I've tried adding a link to his analysis of the CX-90 and every time I do, this site nukes the entire comment.
