Citroën CEO Claims Electrification Will Kill Boxy SUVs

BMW Recalling IX, I4, and I7 EVs Over Battery Issues

BMW has issued a recall on certain 2022-2023 iX, i4, and i7 electric vehicles over a claimed “misdiagnosis” in the high-voltage battery management electronics system. Based on documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the likelihood of a vehicle suffering from the issue is supposedly rare. However, an estimated one percent of recalled models run the risk of erroneously resetting the control unit, resulting in a loss of electrical power.

Additionally, BMW has a much smaller recall that comes with a potential fire hazard and is exclusive to the i4 and iX.

Study: America Allegedly Needs to Quadruple EV Chargers by 2025

The United States is in the midst of expanding its electric vehicle charging network to ensure there’s sufficient charging capacity for the planned deluge of EV sales. Companies are even getting government money earmarked within the so-called Inflation Reduction Act to ensure that the Biden administration’s lofty environmental goals are maintained. Study: Auto Execs Are Becoming Less Optimistic About EV Adoption

Automotive executives are reportedly scaling back their expectations for EV adoption, according to an annual survey conducted by KPMG International. Last year, professionals working at the top of the industry reported that they believed (on average) that over half of all new vehicles sold in the United States by 2030 would be battery-electric. But their faith in electrification appears to be evaporating, with most respondents suggesting that particular goal is no longer achievable.

Canada to Mandate 100 Percent EV Sales by 2035

U.S. Treasury Stalls EV Tax Credit Guidance

On Monday, the United States Treasury Department said it will issue proposed guidance for the updated EV tax credit scheme in March of 2023. However, the Inflation Reduction Act (H.R. 5376) directed the department to finalize its recommendations before 2022 was over by setting a December 31st deadline. While it sounds like bad news for automakers, the delay may actually work to their advantage by delaying new mineral and battery component requirements that may have made vehicles using foreign-sourced batteries ineligible.

If they are going to be a real luxury brand they need SUVs more refined than the Escalade. Keep selling the Escalade alongside the new ones for the existing cigarette-boat audience.(5) XT4 and CT4 get put out of their misery, or maybe brought back as Buicks.

  • Ashley My father had a '69 Malibu that I took cross-country with a lot of detour on the way back. It was OK, but nothing spectacular, and after I got back he had nothing but trouble with it until it finally died in 1974. I had a Malibu rental in 2003 and at one point parked it next to a restored '69 in a shopping center parking lot in Redding, CA. I imagine the two of them had lots to discuss while we were eating at the restaurant inside.
