Used Car of the Day: 2007 Audi RS4

Today's used car of the day is a sporty Audi sedan that asks $27,500. This 2007 Audi RS4 sedan has a manual transmission and is in Pennsylvania.

This car has the Premium Package and is red with a black interior. The mileage is about 137K. The windows have a 15-percent tint and the car has a mix of aftermarket and OEM upgrades, both in terms of cosmetics and performance. Upgrades include the suspension, sway bars, brake rotors, exhaust tune, clutch, K&N filter, and more.

The seller says the car just recently passed state inspection.

You can tell by the way the ad is written that the owner thinks the mods add value and would use that to justify being called out on the price.
No mention of the timing chain being replaced. Which S4 model is this? The one that you have to take the front off the car to reach the timing chain? Or the one with the timing belt hat is not supposed to nee replacing, but the support pieces will eat themselves over time?

  I think it has the same timing chain location at the rear of the engine, meaning you have to remove the bumper and radiator support, then remove the engine, to access the timing chain. However, some of the RS4 timing chain guides may be more robust (aluminum with plastic liner) than the S4 version (all plastic). I don't know how long they last in upgraded form. Either way, it's something you will want to plan ahead for. P.S. - If I had bought a new S4 with the all-plastic version, I would be so upset when I learned that Audi already had a better version, but they chose not to include it on my car.

  The Audi "service position", from what I understand, is designed to allow access to the front of the engine. I believe, the Audi V8s from that era have timing chains that are on the back of the engine. Servicing the timing chain or the guides requires removal of the engine. I think the RS4 has metal timing chain guides, and the S4 has plastic guides. Unless you are willing to incur the cost of pulling the engine to service the chains I recommend avoiding these cars.

Susan O’Neil There is a good reason to keep the Chevrolet Malibu and other 4 door family sedans! You can transport your parents and other somewhat handicapped people comfortably and safety! If someone can stand and pivot you can put them in your car. An armrest in the back seat is appreciated and a handle above the door! Oh…and leather seats so your passenger can slide across the seat! 😊Plus, you can place a full sized wheelchair or walker in the trunk! The car sits a little lower…so it’s doable! I currently have a Ford Fusion and we have a Honda Accord. Our previous cars were Mercury Sables-excellent for transporting handicapped people and equipment! As the population ages-sedans are a very practical choice! POV from a retired handicapped advocate and daughter! 😊
Freddie Remember those ads that say "Call your doctor if you still have...after four hours"?You don't need to call your doctor, just get behind the wheel of a CUV. In fact, just look at one.I'm a car guy with finite resources; I can't afford a practical car during the week plus a fun car on the weekend. My solution is my Honda Civic Si 4 door sedan. Maybe yours is a Dodge Charger (a lot of new Chargers are still on dealer lots).

Steve Biro For all the talk about sedans vs CUVs and SUVs, I simply can’t bring myself to buy any modern vehicle. And I know it’s only going to get worse.
