Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) has recently initiated a safety recall campaign affecting a specific range of vehicles equipped with the M254 engine. The recall, identified by NHTSA Campaign Number 23V878000, addresses an issue related to the high-pressure fuel pump that could lead to potential safety hazards for vehicle owners and other road users. In this article, we provide a comprehensive overview of the recall, its implications, and the necessary steps for affected vehicle owners to ensure their safety on the road.

The Recall Details

  • Manufacturer: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC
  • Components Affected: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Potential Number of Units Affected: 7

Summary of the Issue

The recall encompasses certain 2023 GLC300, 2024 GLE350, and GLE450 vehicles, all equipped with the M254 engine. The key issue at hand involves incorrect screws that were installed on the high-pressure fuel pump during manufacturing. These incorrect screws have the potential to impede the proper sealing between the high-pressure fuel pump and the tandem oil pump, compromising the integrity of the fuel system.

Implications and Safety Concerns

An inadequate seal in the fuel system can result in fuel and oil leaks onto the road surface. Such leaks can pose significant hazards to other road users, potentially leading to accidents and crashes. Furthermore, when fuel and oil leaks occur in proximity to hot engine components, there is an elevated risk of fire, which can be catastrophic.

Remedy and Action Required

To address this safety concern, MBUSA is taking proactive measures. Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump in the affected vehicles, and this service will be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners. It is essential for affected vehicle owners to respond promptly to the recall. Owner notification letters will be sent out starting on February 19, 2024. Vehicle owners are encouraged to contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 to schedule their high-pressure fuel pump replacement.

Contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

In addition to reaching out to MBUSA, vehicle owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information and assistance regarding this recall.

  • 1995 SC PA is concerning, but if it spent most of its life elsewhere and was someone's baby up there and isn't rusty it seems fairly priced.
  • CanadaCraig I don't see ANY large 'cheap' cars on the market. And I'm saying there should be.
  • 1995 SC I never cared for the fins and over the top bodies on these, but man give me that interior all day. I love it
  • 1995 SC Modern 4 door sedans stink. The roofline on them is such that it wrecks both the back seat and trunk access in most models. Watch someone try to get their kid into a car seat in the back of a modern sedan. Then watch them try to get the stroller into the mail slot t of a trunk opening. I would happily trade the 2 MPG at highway speed that shape may be giving me for trunk and rear seat accessibility of the sedans before this stupidity took over. I ask you, back in the day when Sedans were king, would any of them with the compromises of modern sedans have sold well? So why do we expect them to sell today? Make them usable for the target audience again and just maybe people will buy them. Keep them just as they are and they'll keep buying crossovers which might be the point.
  • Kwik_Shift_Pro4X As much problems as I had with my '96 Chevy Impala SS.....I would love to try one again. I've seen a Dark Cherry Metallic one today and it looked great.
